MUSHING ENTHUSIASTS in IOWA
Shelly Lewis presents Martin with a pair of autographed suspenders. Shelly provided the dogs for the "grand entry."

After spending just a short time at Alaska House, Martin immediately dubbed the place the Alaska Embassy in New York City. After walking the streets of New York for days, we found Alaska House to be an oasis of calm in an overwhelmingly busy city.

I was delighted to find on display the artwork of Alvin Amason, vibrant three dimensional representations of Alaskan animals that yell out their distinct personalities.
Carefully crafted pieces of Alaska Native Art are displayed throughout the building.

Part of the event in NYC was to have the Ace of Cakes (Duff) make a cake representing Alaska. He and his crew took a trip to the state, gathered impressions and came up with the cake above. The cake will be featured during an episode of the his show. He brought in the Mt. McKinley and spent hours adding the decorations which included a dog team, native dancers, Hotel Captain Cook, the polar bear plunge, etc. Click on the photo to get a bigger view. I had never seen the show but evidently it is quite popular. Besides being quite a project, the cake itself tasted delicious.

We are in NYC for a promotional event and we found Balto in Central Park. Rohn drove from RPI for a visit and our primary mission was to find Balto. While Balto is tucked away in the southeast corner of the Park, you can see how much he has been loved. His shiny coat shows where kids and adults have climbed on him and petted him.
